We Find Leaks That Others Can’t

With over 40 years’ experience and advanced detection equipment, we’re equipped to handle leaks in challenging conditions. Using Gutterman Acoustic, Radiodetection, and the Ferret system, we apply the right method for each situation — including leaks that are too small, too deep, or too difficult for traditional detection methods.

What We Can Do

  • ✔ Locate hidden underground leaks
  • ✔ Identify leaks under concrete & driveways
  • ✔ Detect small or low-flow leaks
  • ✔ Trace pipe paths and depth accurately
  • ✔ Work in noisy or complex environments
  • ✔ Find leaks others couldn’t locate

Why Choose Us

  • ✔ Over 40 years’ experience
  • ✔ State-of-the-art detection equipment
  • ✔ Advanced Ferret Leak Locator system
  • ✔ Accurate, non-invasive methods
  • ✔ Reduce unnecessary digging
  • ✔ Save time and repair costs
Hidden leaks can waste thousands of litres of water every day — increasing costs and causing damage.

How We Locate Leaks

We don’t rely on a single method. Every leak is different — so we apply the most effective detection technique based on the conditions, pipework, and environment. Our approach allows us to accurately locate leaks in situations where traditional methods often fail — including deep pipes, low-flow leaks, and noisy or built-up areas.
“Had a high water bill and no obvious signs of a leak. These guys came out, traced the line and pinpointed it without any digging. Saved a lot of hassle.”Mark T

Acoustic Leak Detection

Acoustic Leak detection
Utilising advanced acoustic ground microphone technology, we can detect the sound of water escaping from pressurised pipes and accurately locate leaks of approximately 3 litres per minute and above, depending on soil conditions.

Radiodetection Tracing

RadiodetectionUsing radio detection technology, we can accurately trace the exact path of your water main and identify its depth before any further work is carried out. This allows us to understand how the pipe is laid, even when it runs under driveways, concrete, or landscaped areas.

What to Expect From Our Leak Detection

What does leak detection cost?
Leak detection starts from $179 + GST, which includes travel and up to 1 hour on site.

This covers initial inspection, measuring water loss, and acoustic detection where conditions allow.

For more complex situations, advanced methods such as Ferret leak locating may be required.
Will you need to dig up my driveway or property?
No — in most cases, no excavation is required during detection.

We locate the leak first so repairs can be targeted and minimal, avoiding unnecessary disruption.
How long does leak detection take?
Most leaks are located within 1 to 1.5 hours using acoustic detection.

More complex leaks may require additional time using advanced methods.
Why doesn’t acoustic detection always work?
Acoustic detection relies on sound and may be less effective when leaks are very small, pipes are plastic, there is background noise, or pipes are deep or under concrete.

In these cases, advanced methods such as Ferret technology are used.
How accurate is leak detection?
Accuracy depends on the method and the nature of the leak.

Acoustic detection works well for larger leaks, while advanced pressure-based methods provide highly precise results in complex situations.
What if you can’t find the leak?
In most cases, leaks are successfully located using a combination of methods.

Situations where a leak cannot be found are rare and usually relate to pipe condition or access limitations.

Real Results on Difficult Leaks

Herne Bay – 100m shared driveway
Leak measured at 3.3 L/min (approx. 4,750 litres/day). Multiple underground services made traditional detection unreliable — accurately located using advanced methods.
Blockhouse Bay – 80m shared driveway
Acoustic detection not viable due to heavy construction noise. Leak successfully located using Ferret Leak Locating technology.
Henderson – low-flow leak
Previous acoustic detection unsuccessful. Complex pipe layout including a 90° bend — leak accurately pinpointed using advanced detection.
Onehunga – very low-flow leak
Leak measured at 1.26 L/min (approx. 1,800 litres/day). Too small for reliable acoustic detection — identified using specialist methods.

No plans? Don’t know where your pipes run? No problem!

We’re often called in after other detection attempts have failed — we’ll trace the line and pinpoint the leak accurately.
