Toilet terminology

What is an S Pan? – the outlet pipe exists through the floor

What is a P Pan? – the outlet pipe exists out the wall

What is BTW? – Back to Wall – This type of suite fits to the wall and hides all pipes

What is a Close Coupled or Semi Wall faced Suite? – This suite has a gap of approx. 80-120mm behind the toilet pan, allowing pipes to be accessed.

Do I need a S or a P Suite? – Back to wall and Semi wall faced toilets all come as a P Pan but have a bend included to make them into a Span if required.

Toilet FAQ

Where is the existing water tap for the toilet positioned? – This is important that the old position is compatible with the new Suite.

Will my existing water tap prevent a BTW Suite being installed against the wall? – This is often the case. The water pipe could be moved or a Semi Wall Faced Suite can work in this situation.

Is my existing floor outlet too far out from the wall for a new Suite? – The right Suite can handle a floor connection up to 260mm out from the wall, but many standard Suites will only do 140mm from wall to centre of outlet pipe.

Muir Plumbing will be happy to advise you on which model will work for you and come up with a solution you will be happy with.

Before and after toilet

Why is my toilet leaking on the floor? – Toilet components are sealed with rubber connections that wear and deteriorate over time, leading to leaking – they can be replaced some often.

Why is my toilet making a filling sound in the middle of the night? – Toilet cisterns often run into the bowl causing increased water bills and water staining at the back of the bowl, you probably need a new flush washer or a fill valve replacement.

My old plastic cistern has several problems, is it worth fixing? – Probably not, we will advise you if installing a new cistern is better value than repairing an old cistern that has seen better days.

Muir Plumbing can fix your toilet and solve the leaking problems.
